Differences in Access, Trust, and Screening Initiation

When it comes to diagnosing prostate cancer at an early stage, black men's biggest hurdle may be poor access to trusted medical care. The study of 555 men (348 whites and 207 blacks) living in North Carolina showed that black men knew about their risk but were disadvantaged in accessing medical care. Another difference the study by the Center for Outcomes Research at Massachusetts General Hospital found was that whereas black men requested the screening, white men were recommended it.
